Come on in, stay a while!

Hello and welcome!

This is my quaint little blog dedicated to belly-filling, home-cooked comfort food. I am by no means an expert chef, so if that’s what you’re looking for then I’m sorry to disappoint. I am a self-trained cook and that affords me a unique opportunity. All of my recipes and videos will be provided without any air of superiority. I can provide an affordable meal every week that won’t require complex cooking methods.

I am a college senior so I certainly have to watch my money, and that is why I’ve decided to design these recipes to be affordable with nearly any budget. Just because they’re affordable and easy to make doesn’t mean they’re not delicious though!

I am a big fan of cheese, bacon, ranch, and avocados so it is very likely the recipes will feature one or more of those ingredients. Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy with both your eyes and your belly!

On the surface, TrueGrub seems to merely be dedicated to affordable, delicious home-cooked meals. That is the major objective of the blog, but I have some underlying goals that should be mentioned.

Food/cooking blogs seem to have been growing exponentially as chefs and cooks experiment with new and cool ways to cook food, find awesome local ingredients, and present these ideas with an ever-expanding field of technology. I don’t wish to go against this grain, and I certainly want to make a valuable contribution to it.

My goal is to have TrueGrub be accessible to even the most novice of cooks, but also have something in there for those with years of experience. I want to showcase my humble cooking methods, but also allow the spotlight to shine upon the food itself. The majority of the food I present won’t be considered “healthy”, but man, they will be delicious recipes.

I grew up in a small town in central Illinois, and spent the majority of my childhood living on a farm. I grew to respect locally sourced food and traditional, American-style comfort food cooking. I will always do my best to make sure that my roots shine through in my recipes. I also want to address the fact that this blog’s main goal is to provide these recipes at an affordable cost. I have a very limited budget as a college student, but I feel that everyone deserves to eat a great meal at least once a week.

We are all so caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives that we often settle for fast or processed food just to get through the day. The weekend usually provides us with an opportunity to slow things down, and cook a decent meal. Most of my recipes will feature only a few ingredients at an affordable price, and will be able to be cooked in a reasonable amount of time.

We are living in a chaotic time in our society, so I want to offer TrueGrub as a safe space where we can all come together, get inspired by food, and bond over the fact that our bellies are full!
